10 HoliDAYS of Self-Love: Day 1

Hello my fudgies!

What are the 10 holiDAYS of self-love? Well, it's very simple! During this very stressful holiday time, especially for those of us who struggle/have struggled with eating disorders, social anxiety, and low self-esteem in general, the abundance of food and holiday parties can be very stressful. So join me in the journey: 10 days, 10 challenges each day to improve your self-esteem and make this holiday season more pleasurable. Enjoy!

Day 1:  No hair/makeup

I don't know about you, but during this crazy holiday season, my skin and hair go through World War 3. For some reason I feel the need to look like Megan Fox for my grandmother's brunch.
So during this time where many of us, including yours truly, are studying for finals, give yourself a break to anticipate the wreckage of constant beautifying that accompanies the 420350 holiday parties coming up.

Step 1: clean your face, moisturize, tone, do your thing.

Step 2: DON'T do your hair or your makeup.

Step 3: BONUS: if you can take a selfie with an "ugly" grimace and post it on your social media #fudgeperfection, I will send you one of my limited edition Fudge Perfection bracelets. I am dead serious. Email me if you do so:)

Here's my picture!

Before, looking glamorous as fudge:                      After, looking slightly like dirt:

Enjoy my angels!

Ordering Food: A Body Positive Guide

Hello my angels!

If you've followed this blog for the past 2 and a half years, first of all, you deserve some sort of trophy, because those early typo-filled rants I used to post are painful for me to even look at.

But in all seriousness, if you've been around for a while, you know that, although I consider myself recovered from my ED, ordering food still brings me a lot of anxiety.
What will the waiter/McDonalds employee think of me?
Will he think I'm fat for ordering this meal?
Will he think I'm fat for ordering anything at all? (a legit thought that has crossed my mind one too many times.

I did some research (Tumblr, mostly) and found that I am not alone in this ordeal.

So although I'm still trying to get better, I have accumulated some wisdom that I would like to share with you all today. Here are my 3 thoughts regarding ordering food to help you order without panicking and ordering a tall glass of water:

1. You Legitimately Don't Matter

Harsh, I know, but true. Waiters wait several tables at a time for several hours. It's almost funny for us to think that they would remember our order to the tee. At the end of their long day, said waiter will not lay down on his bed and think to him/herself: "man that boy/girl on table 9 ordered a lot of bread sticks". If he/she does, it's probably because he thinks you're cute, so good on you!

2. Fuck That Waiter

Maybe he/she will remember how many breadsticks you ordered. Fine. Round of applause for this idddic memory kid. But there are several possible ways this could go:
a) you never go to that restaurant again, and never see this person ever again.
b) you go back to that restaurant because, yes, those breadsticks were life, and get a different waiter.
c) you get the same waiter and he/she doesn't remember you.
d) he/she does remember your cute face, and makes a comment about those breadsticks.
e) punch him/her in the face

Kidding, of course. But think about it. The odds that option d) would occur are hella slim. And besides, these people live off of tips: do you really think they would be audacious enough to criticize your food choices? Money makes the world go round, loves, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your damn breadsticks.

3. Self Love > This Waiter

Here's the thing: regardless of whether this waiter remembers you, your order, and thinks you are fat/unhealthy/a bad person, it shouldn't matter.
You cannot live your life according to what others may or may not think of you.

There's always someone who's going to think you're cute, just like someone's going to think you're not. Someone will think you're too thin, too fat, too pale, too dark, too smart, too dumb.
It sucks, don't get me wrong, but it's life.

What will make you or break you in this world is whether or not you accept that not everyone will think you're perfect

So next time you walk into your favorite diner, accept that this waiter may or may not judge the nutritious value of your order, and that's okay. Once you've come to terms with the fact that you can't control what he/she thinks, I promise, those breadsticks will taste a hell of a lot better.

Sam Pepper: Get Yo Hand Off My Butt

Hello my darling fudgies!

Recently, Sam Pepper, famous Youtuber and overall d*ckweed has released a video where he walks around the streets of London and fondles girl's butts.
Without their consent of course, because then it's funny right? Then it's a prank, right?

Nope, then it's sexual assault.

Many intelligent people have given their 2 cents about this topic, including Laci Green, so I think it is safe to say that you all know why this is wrong in general. I've also written about Youtube celebrity culture and sexual behaviors in an article here.
But Let me tell you why this video upsets me personally.

When I was 14, leaving my house, nay, leaving my room, was sort of a challenging task. I was afraid someone would see me from school and make a negative comment about me in their head. I was afraid someone would honk, or I would fall, or I would breathe wrong.

Keep in mind that nothing terrible had ever happened to me as a result of leaving my house, but still, agoraphobia was pretty much a 24/7 demon.

Now with the help of medication and meditation and a bit of common sense, I can easily leave my house, hair a ratchet mess, in my sweatpants, not a care in the world.

But there's still a part of me that fears something like this. Something exactly like a random stranger pinching by butt.

If Sam Pepper or another entitled male ever did something similar to this, here are my 3 possible reactions:

1. Slap the jaw off of this child. #deservedit
2. Go on a feminist rant about sexual assault and the entitled male and curse him with my feminist super powers.
3. Never leave the house again.

It's the 3rd one that makes me nervous. I can guarantee that many of the girls whose butt was pinched reacted in a lighthearted way, even if they were violently uncomfortable, did not find it funny. Like, at all. I can't say any of them were recovering agoraphobics, but if it were to happen to me, all those negative ideas would come flooding back into my brain.

Keep that in mind when you're doing anything: how will this impact another person's day?

xoxo

Wanting To Get Better: Recovery

Hello my angel food cakes:)

I recently watched this supernaturally amazing video by my homegirl and idol Kati Morton.
First of all, if you aren't subscribed to her beautiful channel, I don't know what you are doing with your life.
Secondly, this video made me think about my journey, and about the recovery process.
Many people ask for help when they want to get better, or stay better.

But how do you want to get better? How do you want to stay healthy, stay safe, stay alive?
Kati gives this awesome trick which I will share with you today.
This is very personal but I feel that as a fudgie family, you are all capable of respect:)

Step 1: What are you looking forward to (this month, this year, this life)?

1. Getting my tattoo
2. Seeing my BFF Luana again
3. Going to the Queens of The Stone Age concert
4. Attending formal
5. Halloween!
6. Reading more books
7. Going to college
8. Having kids

Step 2: Can you do these things if you are laying in bed depressed, or chained to anxiety, or imprisoned by an eating disorder? Can you do these things and enjoy them?

The answer is no.

Step 3: Keep working, keep self-loving, keep your strength.

Panic Attacks: Through

Hello my angels!

"The Best Way Out Is Always Through", Robert Frost

I've talked about my struggles with anxiety before, and even written a few piece about the best ways I have found to keep this disillusioned fear at bay, but I have never addressed the topic of panic attacks directly.

And there is a simple reason for that: I just didn't know how to make them stop
Even to this day, I am mostly panic-attack-free because of medication, not because I became a zen guru overnight. Unfortunately I was born a high strung lunatic, and that's probably not going to change anytime soon.

But if I've learned anything at all about dealing with anxiety attacks, it is simply this:
If you are having a panic attack, have a panic attack.
Don't try to hide it, don't try to make it stop in its tracks.
The Best Way Out Is Always Through.

I don't know your life, or the way your anxiety manifests itself.

A great tattoo Miley, but during a panic attack,
that's like being told
to stop having a seizure. Pic from
But I know that for me, when I start to feel the rising tide of panic build in my brain,
I try to stop it.
I try to take deep breaths.
I try to focus on something else.
I try to detract the attention away from me.

But I also know that for me, every time, without fail, this only makes it worse.
My deep breaths make me hyperventilate.
My fidgety eyes change directions so many times that I get dizzy.
My weird attempts to stop the panic only draws attention to the problem.

I'm not saying that your anxiety, your inherent feeling of discomfort and fear, is good, no.

If you don't have to go into the water, swim far out into the ocean, don't.
But once the wave hits, don't try to get out of its embrace.
Let it wash over you, don't waste your energy on trying to swim away, or hating yourself for the wave's crashing upon you (as you can see from my ridiculously extended metaphor, that shit is not your fault, it's nature).

This quote by Robert Frost gets me through life.
A "bad" day coming ahead, a dark time in one's life, an awkward moment in class,
when it comes to time, there is no out, but there's also no going back in,
you just have to get through it.

I hope this helps at least one of you in a time of crisis.
No self loathing, no fighting a losing battle, just survive.

Have a lovely week my pumpkins!

Disfigured: A Short Story

Hello my darlings:)

I'm incredibly busy right now, so I apologize for the lack of interesting articles!
But I recently collaborated with my friend Adelaide on a short story. I present to you the first few pages, hopefully if you like it I will post the rest as we write on.
Please share it if you like it! Have a wonderful day, my beauties<3

He was looking directly at it. God, could he possibly be less subtle? Although I do enjoy his technique more than that of the people who feel that, out of respect for my scar or some shit like that, they should avoid my face in its entirety. This seemingly logical strategy results in many of my conversational partners staring off into deep space during our chats, as if they were pondering the philosophical meaning of such deep inquiries as our math homework.

But at this very moment, I was only dealing with a level 1 glarer. And just like clockwork, 12 seconds after the beginning of our talk, my friend anxiety conducted his famous magic trick; the rising flame act, which consisted of making an aggressively red color rise from the bottom of my neck to the tip of my ears. Deep breaths, I told myself, focus on your breathing, look away, do not panic, but all efforts in vain, as usual. I gathered my books, mumbled some excuse and bolted out of our locker row.

You would think that after being disfigured for almost 4 years now, a girl would get used to the weird looks, the untimely comments and the snickering echoes. But that only happens in the pamphlets, where the survivor is so proud of her uniqueness that she gives conferences to teenagers everywhere and becomes a hero, a bloody inspiration. Yeah, right.

But back to the now; I was sweeping by undistinguishable faces, blurred by my lack of breathing and its resulting dizziness, tossing all bystanders aside, caring less and less about the casualties as I approached my trusty handicap bathroom stall. I know, being defaced isn’t technically a handicap, but since no one dares question my reasons for using it, I’m not going to let a perfectly practical sanctuary go to waste. I’ll occasionally get some curious expressions, adorned with question-mark shaped eyebrows and frown lines, but what else is new. I’m disgusting.
I entered the dark room to find this slutty 10th grade couple going at it, and sure enough, when I turned on the lights and they spun around in fear to find me standing at the threshold, the girl screamed. Oh, the might it took to stop my fists from gently bashing into her obnoxiously normal face. I shooed them out, and what monster says goes.

So I found myself alone at last in this far-too familiar bathroom. I pivoted my head towards the mirror, and breathed a long sigh of relief. This barely-used-for-its-intents-and-purposes lavatory was seldom cleaned, thus leaving its mirror filthy with fingerprints and hairspray, and I loved it so. You see, my instincts failed me on a daily basis, directing my eyes towards the nearest reflective object, and leaving me breathlessly horrified at the sight of my reflection. But not this mirror, no, for all I could see through the haziness were vague shapes and colors, and for a single blink-and-it’s-gone moment, I looked pretty. The washed-out blond lion mane that is my hair somehow manifested itself as an angelic halo, caressing my delicate features, which is a phrase that seems foreign to my tongue nowadays.
I kneeled down on the grimy floor tiles, took a hiccupping breath, and wept. I didn’t cry, crying was for people whose feelings only stabbed a little. I oozed pain, I leaked despair. Every little piece of my body was aching, my hands were shaking. I couldn’t even hold myself up anymore, so I completed my disintegration by collapsing to the floor, clutching on to my books as if they too would try and flea from my atrocity.

Why does every moment have to be so hard, I thought to myself, as I rose from the ground and dusted myself off. These episodic collapses weren’t exactly rare, and they, unfortunately, weren’t getting less frequent as time went on, like Dr Rashad promised. It was his entire damn fault, too, the least he could do was keep his promises.

I guess maybe you could consider it luck, like that stupid pamphlet girl probably would, that monstrosity hit a girl already lacking a reason to live. Less to lose, I guess. Because when you think about it, there are people in this world that have so much to lose, like friends, family, jobs, happiness. I mean, the cashier at Metro tells me that maybe I should be thankful that God picked me, a crappy person, with bad self-esteem, and depression, who hurts everyone around her, instead of some rainbow-farting angel. Well, she doesn’t exactly say it, but let’s face it: the number of times per week I showed up at her cash toting bags of junk, manically shuffling for change, making it clear to any bystander that I was on my way to a party of one binge fest, proves that life under this skin is the very definition of torment.  It was in moments like those that I wished I were dead, and moments like right now, heading back out into the scary, scary world just because there was nowhere else to go.

I hiked up the flights of stairs as quickly as I could, but not fast enough to make me all red and sweaty (I don’t need more ugly on me, thank you very much), and shuffled into my class right before the bell rang. I spent the rest of my World of Today class praying she wouldn’t call on me like she had a habit of doing, without my permission (The nerve!). It was this demonic app some of my teachers had discovered that randomly selected a student’s name to answer a question; an anxiety-afflicted child’s nightmare. It ran over each name, teasing us, like some sadistic game show, and if it landed on my own, the cynical ding of the bell unleashed the wrath of the big, embarrassed dragon, crawling up my face, burning it to a crisp. But today was apparently a lucky Monday, as I walked out of there scorch-free.

I saw my friends down the hall, and called out their names: «Jessie! Jessie! Mel! Chris!», but in vain, no one turned around, except onlookers, their mocking faces smirking and judging me, with their friends right by their side. Dear students of this God-forsaken school, I’m really not going to miss any of you.

Back at my locker, I joined the aforementioned friends, trying as best as I could to casually join their conversation. Like always, however, I felt this thick gap between us, like I was floating in a haze far, far away from their reality. I couldn’t relate to what they were saying, I just felt off, like my body or my mind didn’t belong with those of other teenagers, the non-disfigured ones anyways.

It's Okay (Asking for Help)

Hello my beautiful dolls:)

Fact: I am currently taking medications to manage my anxiety.

Fact: I used to think medication, or therapy, or any form of exterior help was for the weak. I'd gone through recovery for an eating disorder the long, hard, painful, medication-less, old-fashioned way, and didn't think there was any other way to beat your problems than to fight everyday for years.

Fact: I was wrong.

You build walls around your heart to protect yourself from getting hurt.
Like being vulnerable or weak is something that should be hidden from the general public.
Like your neighbour isn't broken in some way too.

And sometimes it feels like throwing yourself off the mountain you are so desperately trying to climb is a better option than asking for a hand.
Trust me, I know.
I hate group projects, I hate relying on people, I hate asking for help.

But you know what I also hate?
Panic attacks.
Oh, I tried it all. Wishing upon a star, praying, breathing exercises, all in vain.
I couldn't imagine my life without anxiety.

So I caved. And as it turns out, caving takes a lot of strength.
When you cave, you don't give in to the fight.
You gain an army, you accumulate weapons, you get yourself ready for the big battle.
You face your fears head on, no coping mechanisms.
And who cares about looking all strong and mighty?
You'll get the last laugh when you win the war.

So whatever you are holding on to.
Every compulsion, coping mechanism;
Drop them.
Watch them as they hit the floor in a clatter.
Feel that weight on your shoulders?
Feel your scars throbbing, feel your eyes watering?
Not anymore you don't.

I love you, have a wonderful week:)
xoxo

December Darlings

Hello my beauties!

I have been home due to american Thanksgiving break this past week, just sleeping, relaxing, and, of course, not writing. I have no excuse, except for the fact that I had not been home in 3 months? Forgive me, dears. I will never give up on you.

But on this magical day that is December 1st, I decided to share some of my favorite things.
Enjoy:)

1. Beutiful Magazine

This blog, linked right here, is a cornucopia of body positive pictures, tips, articles.
Please check it out, it's one of my faves at the moment!

2. Crazy Christmas Decorations

I do not care if you don't celebrate xmas, due to religion or hipster anti-comercial principles, you must admit pretty lights and twinkling trees are freaking fun. Unless these are you neighbours, in which case I apologize for the lack of sleep you will encounter, this amazing house I found in Pierrefonds (looks better in real life, so go out and find it) made me want to blast Bing Crosby and throw myself in a snow bank.
I think the holidays, if anything, should be about embracing that inner child, so bust out your inflatable Santas people!

3. Holiday Food Frenzy
This great article on Adios Barbie click here to view preps you for the holiday food anxiety some of us feel around this time of year. I also plan on writing a little something about it, but in the mean time, check out my editor's take on surviving the season.

4. Finals!
Oh my god, who's excited for a week of massive exams, mountains of papers, lack of sleep, anxiety and the looming pressure of college???!!!!
(not me)

-------------------
My loves, I have many wonderful things planned for the month of December, and cannot wait to share the love. But until then, stay beautiful and stay warm!

The Block

Hello my loves,

Yesterday afternoon, at around 3:30, I suffered from the crippling illness that is writer's block.

And children, you do not want to see me when I'm suffering from writer's block.

I start ranting in both French and English, abusing my keyboard with a ferocity unknown to civilized society, pacing up and down my dorm's hall, trying to find the perfect place to write the supposed master piece just floating in my head waiting to be unleashed.

I try to rhyme, and be poetic and mysterious.
I try to research articles and papers to sound smart and knowledgeable.
But when it comes down to putting words on a page, it all sounds forced.

Who's going to read this, I ask after every miserable sentence. Images of critical English teachers and random students from my classes blur my vision, and before I know it I've deleted the entire paragraph.

So I go take a walk, breathe in the fresh air, but in vain, I still feel trapped in my own brain.
I call my mom, vent and whine as daughters do, but alas I only hang up feeling homesick.
I try to eat, lord knows how I convinced myself that it's a great way to enhance my writing abilities, but sink deeper in the hole of my own self
pity, and retreat to a world where all is well and just: Netflix.

A few hours later, however, I came upon an idea as I finalized my english paper. And I wrote it down.

No one looking over my shoulder, no future judgement clouding my honesty, no paralyzing fear of failure;
It's all just ink on paper.

So whatever obstacles you encounter today, my dear fudgies, just push through.
Don't let the things you can't control control you.

Xoxo

October Favorites

Hello my loves!

I am going into a ridiculously busy week, so I don't have time to write yall a heavily researched, 5 page critical essay on the latest Tumblr thinspo nonsense.
But I didn't want to leave you all hanging, so I rounded up some of my favorite things for the month of October! Hope you enjoy <3

1. Hello Life Blog:

After she gave me a lovely shoutout on Twitter,

I checked out her blog and found it absolutely brilliant. It's very raw and real, but well written. Gurl, I got some competition :P
In all seriousness, please go take a look at her wonderful writings at http://hellolifeblog.com

2. Queerie Bradshaw interview

Everything body positive feminist Queery Bradshaw said about choosing to love your body, deciding to stop hating it, and putting a bikini on a body to have a "bikini body" literally made me raise my hands to the sky and praise the lords of body image because this woman is preaching the truth.
I just love how simply she explains it.
Warning: some parts are a little, um, not PG. Just a disclaimer, enjoy responsibly:)

3. Porn Stars Without Makeup

These pictures have been circulating the internet for quite some time now; but I don't think I've ever mentioned them in a post before. I have written about confidence and makeup and their interconnected conundrum (insert shameless link to that article), but I found an expression by Bobbi Brown that sums up what I could write 15 encyclopedia-sized articles about.
"Pretty, Powerful"
We are all beautiful without, but more powerful, by our self expression and confidence, with makeup.

4. Mid Term Food for Thought

I'm starting to feel the burn of mid terms, which is why I wrote last week's article about anxiety and its obliteration. But I found this picture on tumblr and found it ridiculously appropriate considering my, and many of my friends', stressful educational situation. Calm down, stay strong, and do the best you can.
And lord knows if you are someone like me whose dreams (and nightmares) revolve around being on the high honor roll, keep calm and repeat the wise Tumblr mantra. (curtesy of setdreadstostun.tumblr.com)
BTW can we just acknowledge this is the first time in basically 5 millenniums that I brought up Tumblr without raging?! Hoora! There is hope for humanity after all.

So here is my gift to you, my wonderfully effervescent (SATs are coming up, practice makes perfect!) fudgies.

Have an amazing week; drink tons of water, get some sleep and smile.

xoxo

The "What You Need" Anxiety Trick

Hello my beautiful fudgies:)

Life isn't always easy.
And if you're like me (easily overwhelmed and curled up in a ball hyperventilating), it can be hard to separate the things the essential elements of life from the abysmal stressors that are barely even noticeable on the grand scheme of life.
But fear not, my anxious butterflies! I come to you today with a little anxiety relieving technique I entitled "What You Need". (post: this is a tad similar to my favourite anxiety trick of all time, read here

Step 1: Pull out a piece of paper

Step 2: Draw 2 columns: One entitled "I need..." and the other "I want".

Step 3: In the 1st column, write all the things you need to survive (and be honest, you do not need a 97 on your AP bio quiz to live, that sass ain't cute). For example, air, water, shelter, food, etc.
In the 2nd column, write all of tomorrow's events or situations that are making you anxious, stressed out, overwhelmed, etc. and write how you would like them to pan out. For example, that 97% test score now applies. It's important to make sure you keep it to a short-term basis, because it helps you focus on the day-by-day, one step at a time lifestyle this method helps you develop.

Step 4: look over your list. If you have
a) more items in the 1st column, I hope it makes you realize that there are so many vital needs we take for granted, and as long as we have those, I promise you, you will not die, no matter how terrible you are at biology.

b) more items in the 2nd column. Hi, you're a hyper-anxious perfectionist mess. Welcome to the club, love! But in all seriousness, I hope it makes you realize how ridiculously out of whack our priorities are. We put more emphasis on the tiniest little things that don't really matter when you consider how unimportant you are in the universe. Okay, that might sound a tad depressing, but think about it: you can properly fail that quiz, and the Earth will probably still keep spinning.

Step 5: Go over every single row on your paper. Compare the vital to the insignificant by drawing a "is greater than" (>) sign. You may not finish the exercise until you have convinced yourself that water is indeed more important than having time to curl your hair, that air is more important than scoring all the bonus points on your quiz.

And just give a moment of thought to those who don't even have those basic needs we all take for granted sometimes. Go to sleep grateful and calm, wake up refreshed, and don't die of a heart attack at the tender age of 22. Uh hum, emphasis on the go-to-sleep, too many of my friends think sleep is some extracurricular activity you can attempt if you have a few hours to spare once or twice a week (Ameikha...).

And voila! Anxiety, be gone!

I hope this helps you out my babies:)
xoxo

ANEB Fundraising & My Anxiety

Hello my lovely fudgies! :)
(if you just want to read about the ANEB fundraising, skip to the bold text at the bottom of the page)

My name is Gabby, I suffer from anxiety, and that's okay.
I know it's okay because we all have things about ourselves that make us feel weak.
But I also know it's okay because it doesn't have to limit me or my goals, au contraire.

In fact, one of the many reasons I started the blog was because I wanted to get my thoughts, my feelings and my story out into the world, but I wasn't always able to do so when talking to someone face to face, because of said anxiety. This might sound funny to some, since I can be quite a sassy, sarcastic b**tch writer, but trust me, that's just what the voice in my head sounds like, not the one that comes out of my mouth.  So I wrote. I wrote about my life, my victories and my struggles. I wrote about all the things I couldn't tell the people around me.

And because I started writing, and more and more people started reading, all these amazing things started to come my way. I started writing for some of my favourite blogs and magazines, I interned at various mental health non-profits, and, to be completely honest with you all,  I never would have gotten into the school I now attend had it not been for the FP.

So all these wonderful opportunities opened up to me in some way due to my anxiety ridden brain.
But the FP hasn't taught me to use my vulnerability as a crutch or a shield, to play the victim and let it run my life.
OH, NO. TRUST.
The FP has also pushed me way, like lightyears away, out of my comfort zone.

When I heard that ANEB, an eating disorder non profit that has always treated me kindly was going through some difficult financial struggles, I felt personally compelled, as I know many of their employees and volunteers, to help out as best as lil' ole me could.

So as mentioned in my Help ANEB Help Others article, linked right here, I set up a few bracelet displays around my area at independently-owned salons.
What I didn't mention was what I had to go through to get my little booty into those stores.

Now I have a terrible fear of counters, sale's counters (basically the cash, IDK what it's fancy name is) and receptionist's desks, because I am prone to having panic attacks when I go up to these aforementioned satanic spots (kidding).

So i think you, especially those who also suffer from anxiety, can imagine how nervous I was to go up to a counter, on my own, and ask if I could sell my bracelets there. Unreal. I considered spiking my orange juice with some strong liquor to calm myself down, but I figured drunk Gabby wasn't a great rep for ANEB's cause.

So as I got to the strip mall where my first stop is situated, running my speech over and over again in my head, I headed towards the salon. I was walking, I was getting closer, but then the receptionist looked at me and I thought NOPE, completely chickened out and headed towards the drugstore.
I then collected myself, put on a bright albeit ridiculously fake confident smile and set my sights on the salon, but again, panicked, pulled a 180 and hid behind the magazine counter.

I repeated this cycle at least 3 times, I KID YOU NOT MY LOVES, until I finally got to the counter. The lady behind the desk looked up from her magazine and I quickly, inarticulately blurted out my prepared sales pitch, and for some reason, THEY SAID YES!

I couldn't believe it, I practically rode home on a cloud of excitement fairy dust.

So because I buckled down and pushed past my irrational phobias, in 2 months, with the help of local salons, we raised 103 $ for ANEB and I cannot tell you all how amazing that feels. It's obviously not enough to fill their entire budget deficit, but the little things can always make a difference.

So that's my challenge to you. Find something you really want, but you never thought you could do. Here's the truth; mind over body. Your body is capable of saying, performing and doing so many incredible things, you can't let your brain crush who you have the potential to become.
